Nitric oxide (NO) is a recently appreciated regulator molecule for leukocytes, endothelial cells of blood vessels, and neurons in the brain and peripheral nervous system. NO is handled in the body quite differently from other autacoids and neurotransmitters such as the biogenic amines.
